This week I focused on bettering the materials lab through research and brainstorming solutions regarding the organization of the lab and the check-out procedures. The samples in the lab are ever-changing to meet the current trends and needs of the students in the college of design. To promote flexibility, I propose a reusable labeling system be installed onto the existing cabinetry. Some options include magnetic, plastic, and metal label covers, as seen in the imagery below.
It would be beneficial to set up the materials lab as if it were an actual library. It would mean setting up a catalogue for all samples, sorting them into an inventory, and having people check them out through scanning of barcodes or entry into a google document. More research is needed to find out how viable this solution is.
